Why does the NFL allow defensive ends to line up way outside of the offensive tackles?
If Dwight Freeney had to line up right on the offensive tackles outside shoulder, he would never get many sacks. Instead, he is allowed to lineup sometimes at least 2 yards outside the offensive tackle’s outside shoulder. The defensive ends have all the advantage moving forward than the offensive tackles have moving backwards. It is an unfair advantage to the defense. I thought the NFL was protecting the QBs.
When an offensive tackle pass protects his first initial step is back . Its gives him his balance power and quickness if Freeney lined up in front of him, he would still get sacks because the tackle would lose his balance and freeney also has alot of pass rushing moves.
By the DE lineing outside it give the QB an opportunity to view the field better. If he is good he will feel the rush and step up in the pocket and make the play.
The NFL is protecting QB better than anyone. No late hits, forward passes. They are taking the fun away from the game honestly by keeping the QB clean its really just tasteless
